Through HNOM's PTL (Parent-Teacher League), classroom Christmas gifts were delivered by Santa! Each grade received indoor or outdoor games for recess! Nursery students in Ms. Lara's class were excited to open a dinosaur game!
As an annual holiday tradition on the last day before Christmas break, 8th grade students gathered near the gym's stage to lead HNOM school in a Christmas Carol sing-along! Miss Hahl played piano as the Class of 2023 led all students, staff, and faculty in song. From pop culture classics - like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells - to religious songs, students filled HNOM school with the sounds of the season!
During HNOM's Holiday Spirit Week, nursery students in Ms. Lara's class crafted Rudolph hats to pair with their Christmas sweaters, showcased lots of red-and-green striped socks, and wore Santa and elf hats!
In Miss Fischer's first grade class, students decorated sweater templates with festive colors, gold glitter, and holiday icons - like ornaments, snowman faces, and Christmas trees! The garish Christmas sweaters were topped with students' own photographed faces for a fun project that celebrated the modern tradition of "Ugly Christmas Sweaters"!
Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's classic picture book, "The Polar Express," Mrs. Chesterton's kindergarten class received train tickets and wore pajamas to enjoy the 2004 film adaptation and some hot cocoa! Students loved the immersive experience!
Miss Fischer's first grade class brainstormed and listed the ingredients necessary to make hot cocoa. Then they enjoyed cups of the warm beverage with mini marshmallows and candy canes!
Through HNOM's partnership with the Paul Effman Music Program, students in band and orchestra performed at the annual evening Christmas Concert in the church. They practiced and perfected the holiday songs during their weekly sessions on Thursdays!

At this year's annual Christmas Concert in the church, HNOM's kindergarten class performed the story of Jesus' birth as described in the biblical gospels of Luke and Matthew.
At the conclusion of their novel unit on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Miss Sciortino's third grade class celebrated with their own candy factory party and a screening of the 1971 classic film adaptation, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." A sugary buffet of Hershey chocolate bars, sour straws, gummy bears and unicorns, Hershey kisses, Air Heads, and M&M's allowed 3rd graders to indulge their sweet tooths during the movie!
Pre-K students dressed up as angels, Mary, Joseph, the three Magi, and shepherds to perform the story of Jesus' birth in a Nativity pageant entitled, "Thank You, God, for Christmas." The homemade nativity scene featured costumes, a starry backdrop, and cardboard and plush farm animals.
A lot of nice lists and holiday puns were posted on HNOM's classroom doors in the school's 3rd Annual Door Decorating Event! According to one door, "There's SNOW place like HNOM" and another claimed that "it's beginning to look a LATTE like Christmas"! We think both are wonderfully accurate! As an annual tradition at HNOM, students designed angel ornaments with their own special prayers on the back for the lobby's Christmas tree. A special thank you to Miss McEnaney for organizing and overseeing the activity!
In Mrs. Powell's 6th grade science class, students learn about the solar system, including moon phrases, the different planets, the sky's biggest star, and other galactic elements! Therefore, this Christmas season, 6th graders colored planet ornaments and topped their classroom tree with a star, which - of course - was a replica of the sun! As a STEM project to learn about the harmful effects of nonrenewable energy on the environment, 4th grade students in Miss Cutrone's class dug chocolate out of cookies in an edible "mining" activity! Students had fun learning about the differences between renewable and non-renewable forms of energy in science class!
For HNOM's annual "St. Nicholas Decorating Day," 8th graders cut simple shapes and designs into folded paper to create intricate, beautiful snowflakes! The snowflakes will be posted as a winter border around their homeroom classroom!
As an annual December tradition at HNOM, students celebrate St. Nicholas on his Feast Day by decorating the building with holiday crafts and decorations, as well as by wearing red and green!
HNOM's middle school members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) helped elementary students make holiday crafts and served breakfast - like eggs, bacon, and potatoes! - on an assembly line at Saturday's family event, "Breakfast with Santa." Thank you for coordinating the volunteerism, Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Carberry!
