In Ms. Fischer's first grade class, students learned about the Last Supper by decorating paper placemats with orange and red tissue paper!

Second grade students made nests for a chick Peep out of marshmallows and toothpicks. The goal was to make sure the chick didn’t touch the plate and was in the air safe from the ground.

As a HNOM tradition to celebrate and honor Holy Week, sixth graders took part in a Seder meal to remember Jesus’ Last Supper. Students enjoyed lamb, matzoh, hard boiled eggs, and grape juice. A special thank you to Miss McEnaney for organizing, preparing, and hosting the meal!

The Diocese of Rockville Centre (DRVC) hosted its annual 5K to support Tomorrow's Hope on Saturday morning at St. Joseph's School in Garden City. Holy Name of Mary School was well-represented (despite the rain!) with administrative and faculty participants: Mrs. Ciminelli (principal), Mrs. Chesterton (kindergarten teacher), and Miss Faux (Math AIS teacher).

On Friday night's opening of HNOM's school play, ALADDIN, JR., HNOM students sang and danced to perform the story of a lively genie and a street urchin who outsmart a disloyal sorcerer in Agrabah. Mrs. Sanders, who is the Diocese of Rockville Centre's superintendent (and also HNOM's former principal!), cheered on students from the audience.

In Mrs. Onorato's Pre-K class, students learned about birds in an immersive, week-long unit. As a culminating activity, they examined real bird nests and eggs! Click the article's title for more phorographs!

From cinnamon twists to classic soft pretzels, the Philly Pretzel Factory fundraiser treated students to a lunchtime snack! Students had fun dipping their salty and sweet treats in a variety of sauces, like honey mustard, cheese, butter creme, and cinnamon! HNOM's Parent-Teacher League (PTL) hosted a Bunny Brunch, its annual spring event for families in Grades K-5. With a gigantic bunny ear arch for photos, a catered breakfast, and spring crafts, the event was hopping with fun activities! The day's dreary spring weather shifted the egg hunt from the yard to the cafeteria, but students still had a lot of fun hunting for the colorful treats! HNOM's Student Council hosted its first fundraiser: a special Chick-fil-A lunch for students! Students could order a chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets with a side of chips and a chocolate chip cookie, Each meal was delivered in its own box. Led by Miss Sciortino, Miss Cutrone, and Miss Mehring, students in Grades 3-5 went on a field trip to the Long Island Children's Museum. Students completed a variety of hands-on science and math activities to develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills!

In Mrs. Ippoliti's second grade classroom, students used various materials - like Lincoln Logs, marshmallows, toothpicks, and unifix cubes - to construct traps to catch a leprechaun! In the spirit of St, Patrick's Day, students embedded pots of gold - made from play coins and foam cutouts - into their designs to attract the classic trickster! 

At HNOM's annual STEM night for Grades K-4, students used cupcake liners, marshmallows, and pasta to experiment with structure and create towers. In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, students in Grades K-4 used colorful cereal, candy, and food dye to create a variety of rainbow STEM crafts!

In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, students in Miss Fischer's first grade class reflected on important people in their lives who were "worth more than gold" to them. After writing two sentences about their treasured relationships, students drew a picture of themselves with their family and friends. The nation's "Read Across America" Day is celebrated annually on the March 2nd birthday of children's book author, Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Seuss Geisel. Pre-K students in Mrs. Onorato's class created portraits of the beloved book character, Cat in the Hat! Complete with his iconic red-and-white striped hat and bow-tie, the paper collages also featured hand-drawn faces that showcased happy emotions! Students in Mrs. Casazza's and Mrs. Intranuovo's Pre-K class also celebrated the 1904 birthday of Dr. Seuss. They created tall, striped hats to dress up like the Cat in the Hat! In Mrs. Chesterton's class, kindergarten students learned all about Ruby Bridges, a civil rights activist who was the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana. Kindergarten students discussed what it means to be brave like Ruby and made connections to a time in their lives when they felt brave, too, through a schoolhouse craftivity!

A performance by Holy Name of Mary's Choir and Handbell Choir aired on the Catholic Faith Network (CFN) during the 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm TV time slot this Saturday. Families could tune in online (https://www.catholicfaithnetwork.org) or on the television (Optimum channel 29 or Verizon FiOS TV channel 296). Miss McEnaney leads HNOM's choirs and Mrs. Powell helped record the video!
